Disney Infinity cancelled

by onMay 11, 2016

Looks like Disney infinity is cancelled and will no longer go on. The team behind Disney Infinity Avalanche Software will be closed. Disney Interactive is no longer making games and it’s unfortunate to hear news like this. We wish All the members the best in their future and hope that everything goes well for all of them.

Here is a official statement

“After a thorough evaluation, we have modified our approach to console gaming and will transition exclusively to a licensing model. This shift in strategy means we will cease production of Disney Infinity, where the lack of growth in the toys-to-life market, coupled with high development costs, has created a challenging business model. This means that we will be shutting down Avalanche, our internal studio that developed the game. This was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans.”

Disney Infinity is a very versatile game indeed. I certainly wish all the team well in their future ventures.

But my problem with Disney Infinity was always putting a hefty price tag on what used to be standard features.
From changing characters, textures, split screen co-op you had to pay a lot for this. Where as it’s predecessor, Toy Story 3 it was all included within the game.
I just hope we see all this extra commercialism calm down on products like this.

That said, DI 3.0 was a very solid product by itself and well worth a look.
