The Evil Men have been Dethroned!

As of late, there has been a lot of focus on the things male dominated studios are doing wrong in the software industry and the negative impact this behavior is having on society. While some of the criticism geared towards male developers may be true it seems, that one of, if not the most unethical, demeaning and downright disgusting pieces of software on the planet is being designed by a team of women.

Peeple for People

For those of you  who might not have heard, Peeple is a new app — designed by 2 women — that gives human-beings the ability to rate other human-beings on a scale of 1 to 5. The app grants anyone with your phone number the opportunity to rate you on a personal, professional or romantic level and assign you a numerical value based on the reviewers experience (if any) with you. It’s worth mentioning that the app doesn’t require the recipient of the review to be an active member of the service. In short, Peeple is an app that lets users rate fellow human-beings as if they were eBay transactions.

The team behind the project are self-described as “two empathetic, female entrepreneurs in the tech space,” whom ” want to spread love and positivity,” needless to say, the millions of unsuspecting people who will soon find themselves in the crosshairs of this unscrupulous app might feel a bit differently.

Peeple is currently in beta and is scheduled to launch in November of 2015 and as you may have guessed this is not sitting too well with the public. In the past week, the app has been hit with a massive amount of criticism from journalists as well as it’s targeted consumer base via social media and and the creators aren’t happy about it. The creative duo  recently took to twitter to respond to a blogpost that apparently rubbed them the wrong way.

The irony here is that Peeple was created for the sole purpose of judging people online and yet the creators of the app seem to take offense from being judged online in a similar fashion. What do you think of Peeple? As always please share your thoughts in the comments below and thanks for reading!
